If you have ever considered helping save horses, this is the time to stand up and speak out. The drought this past spring has driven hay prices through the roof which is causing record numbers of Horse Rescuing Facilities to turn away horses and close their doors. Many of these facilities have been active for years, but can no longer afford to help in the present economy.

Believe me, I personally know horse rescuers that have gone without a lot before they closed their doors. Some of these rescuing facilities are having to consider putting some of the older horses down in hopes that will be able to continue financially supporting the other rescues they currently own. This is a decision no one should have to make, especially someone who has given so much of themselves to save these animals. I for one can no longer stand by and watch these proud people lose everything they have because they are trying to do what is right and stand up for the animals.

Recently congress voted to ban horse slaughter for human consumption. Although this is a wonderful win, it also means that there are 100,000 more horses per year that are going to need a home. We are truly at a fork in the road. We need to thank congress for finally doing the right thing, but now we must pursue funding for the rescuing facilities to house these extra animals.
