"The Healing Barn is like my home!"
By: Colleen Smith

Our Story!

The Healing Barn is like my home.  I started going there about 8 years ago and have never left.  I use to study at River Hollow and took time off from riding to go back to school.  I'm sure it was fate that I answered an ad in the paper to lease a horse at The Healing Barn.

From the moment I walked in, there was a comfortable feeling.  I leased Crazy for 2 years taking lessons from Corri, during that time I really got to know Nancy and Allen.  I decided I wanted my own horse to keep at The Healing Barn.

A sweet beautiful horse came into my life named Splash, he was in my life only a short time.  With a heavy heart and tears I had to say goodbye to Splash, he just wasn't the horse for me.  Again fate stepped in, Joanne my trainer took me to see a horse that was on the market, it was her old show horse.  What a attitude this horse had.  Joanne got on him and he reared up.  To this day I don't know why I got on him but I did and he did the same to me.

Something told me that day he needed a friend and I totally trusted Joanne.  I gave him an apple that day and I will never forget his eyes, a spark of trust and friendship began.  When Keeper arrived at THe Healing Barn he was a handful, but Nancy, Allen, and Corri were there with help and advice.  The rest is history, that was 6 years ago and Keepers Playboy and I are inseperable.  He is my boy and I am his girl.

Keeper has helped me through some very hard times in my life.  My pride and love for this horse is more than anyone knows.  He is so happy now and knows he has a good home at The Healing Barn.

The 3 rescued Belgians, all sad, starving, with tattered coats came back to life.  Buttercup, the wild mustang, you couldn't even touch her before, and now she takes treats out of my hand; and George who still bears the scare of his halter growing into his face.

Nancy works her magic on all the horses and their owners.  She is more than the owner of The Healing Barn, she is a healing angel to all of the horses and owners who's lives she has touched.
