Misunderstood
My name is Buttercup, and I am a wild mustang. I was rounded up when I was 8 months old. I lost my beloved family and I was all alone. I moved from place to place because every where I went the people were afraid of me. I am a good girl and I would never hurt any one. The people would never let me out of my stall, they were afraid I would run away and maybe just maybe they were right. My whole life I had never been locked up, I was always free, and now I could not even see the trees or the grass. I was so sad. One day the people took me to a man who promised he could ride me in 30 days. He was very mean to me and... . . . keep reading
Our First Mission with The Humane Society.
The Story of Molly, the Beautiful Blond Horse I am Molly, a Belgian horse that was rescued along with my brothers from a man who did not feed us, give us shelter, or give us water for years and years. My 2 brothers were much bigger than I and my oldest brother was 800 pounds under weight. It was very hard in the winter to keep warm. There were barns, but the mean man wouldn't let us in them. All the water was frozen so we would lick the ground to try and get water. It was a hard life. One day the Humane Society... . . . keep reading
Neglect at its worst.
My name is George, I met Allen, Nancy, and Corri from The Healing Barn three years ago when they had heard about me. Some one told them I had never been out of my stall and that I still had my baby halter on. I was a big boy then, and my halter had grown into my skin and I had a bad infection all over my face. I had so much pain, I could not stand for any one to touch me, I was very afraid. I was especially afraid of the outside because I didn't know what it was. When I came to The Healing Barn I had to go into isolation because . . . keep reading
Some one who can read pictures!
This is a story about meeting a special some one that was not in my circle of friends. Do you often wonder is this all that my life offers? Same friends, same habits, same, same, same? This is my story about a great lady named Diane. I met Diane about 5 years ago in Michigan at a Healing class that cost $15.00. I almost didn't go, but my friend said lets go, it will be fun. I thought to myself, 'I am an advanced Reiki healer, what in God's name will I learn for $15.00?' But I thought what the heck, I'll go and see what this is all about. We got to the class and here stands a woman who... . . . keep reading
Life in the "NOW"
We spoke about life in the NOW when we were talking about Blonde. You ask what on earth does that mean. The answer is...This is how children and animals live. This is why children and animals are happy all the time (well most of the time). You ask is it easy to live in the NOW as an adult? No, it is not. Living in the NOW means live today as it's your last day; only worry about today, not . . . keep reading
Yellow Long Flowing Mane
Hey y'all, my name is Blonde. I have yellow flowing hair. That's why they call me Blonde. I have been at The Healing Barn for 2 years now, when I came to The Healing Barn I could not walk. My feet were very infected and pus was coming out of my hooves. We soaked my feet every night until the infection went a way. I also have another problem called Cushing's Disease, which means... . . . keep reading

"The Horse Garbage Disposal"
This is the story of rebel: We met Rebel when he was 4 years old, living on a farm where he lived with his mom. Mom being 30-32 years old, was all rebel knew. There wasn't even a house on the property. But there were neighbors! Oh yes the neighbors, they loved rebel! On Christmas day you would see them with there Santa hats on, dumping left overs over the fence for rebel to eat. Potatoes, turkey, stuffing, you name it, he got it. And yes, Rebel would run as fast as he could to eat those goodies. He would eat every last bit. Rebel didn't save or share any with his mother either. When we met Rebel, he was about 500 pounds over weight, I can't imagine why, can you? The main meal at the barn was ears of corn, grass, hay, and the occasional turkey dinner. . . . keep reading
The Healing Barn
Hello, I'm Nancy from THE HEALING BARN, I have a lot of great stories to tell you. Little Bit is just a tiny portion of the animals we have helped over the years. We (Allen, Nancy, and Corri) started The Healing Barn about 12 years ago. We had a three stall barn and 3 acres of turn out. The intention was to get one horse for Corri, whom at the time was 11 years old. Immediately someone called and said, "I have a horse that needs be ridden. He is 4 years old and green broke. He is free, BUT... . . . keep reading
The BOSS
My name is Little Bit and I am the BIG BOSS at The Healing Barn! I am 16 hands tall and registered as a stock paint horse. I do not have markings of a paint like my girlfriend Fancy, but my body looks like some one took a white paint brush and splattered it on my copper colored hair. When I first came to The Healing Barn, I was falling down and I was very sick. I had what they call EPM. All I know is it was not fun to have no control over my rear end. I would try to run and my butt would fall down. It made me feel really stupid. . . . keep reading
Dreams and Hopes
Did you ever have that want or dream of having your own horse? You were 5 years old and you could not make your parents understand that nothing in this world was greater than having your own horse in your own backyard. I was one of those little girls that dreamed of one day having my own horse I could ride through the woods and we would have lunch together under a big apple tree. I would eat jelly sandwiches and my friend, my horse, would eat grass and apples. We would sit there for hours and hours until I... . . . keep reading
